With flights from Toronto and Montreal to the newest airport on Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, Air Canada has announced that it will be the first airline in Canada to provide service to Tulum. Seat purchases can now be made through travel agencies, Air Canada contact centers, the Air Canada app, and aircanada.com. On December 15, tickets to Tulum will go on sale for travel starting May 3.
To increase the capacity of its North American network for the summer of 2024, the airline is also adding flights from Toronto to Charleston, SC. This will be done by adding two new destinations and five new routes, increasing flight frequencies on important routes, and resuming popular seasonal routes earlier than planned in response to anticipated demand.
Air Canada will have up to 520 daily flights to 120 destinations in Canada, the US, and the Caribbean starting in the summer of 2024. This translates to about 66,000 seats being dispatched, a 5% increase in North America’s and the Caribbean’s seat capacity from 2023.
Mark Galardo, who holds the position of Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning at Air Canada, made the following statement:
“We are excited to add two brand new destinations to our global network, Tulum, Mexico, from our Toronto and Montreal hubs, and Charleston, South Carolina, from Toronto, plus new Austin and St. Louis flights from Montreal in summer 2024. These new destinations and routes reflect Air Canada’s market leadership and network diversification strategy of adding capacity to in-demand leisure destinations such as Tulum.”
However, foreign airlines will start using the airport from the next year:
- Beginning on March 28, Delta Air Lines will provide daily nonstop service from Atlanta International Airport (ATL) at Hartsfield Jackson.
- Beginning on March 28, Spirit Airlines will provide two new routes out of Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Orlando (MCO).
- Beginning on March 28, American Airlines will operate four nonstop flights each day from Charlotte (CLT), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), and Miami (MIA).
- Beginning in March, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) will be the departure points for three new routes offered by United Airlines.
